Brussels,
Belgium: 3,000 Solar Panels Installed on Roof of Investment Fund
WDP
Closed-end
real estate investment fund WDP puts its first solar energy power
station into service. The more than 3,000 solar panels on the
roof of the WDP site in Grimbergen can generate a power of 570
kWp.
For
its first solar energy project, WDP called on the renewable energy
know-how of energy supplier, Nuon Belgium.
With
the commissioning of the first solar panel installation in Grimbergen,
WDP has accelerated initiation of the second phase of the project.
In this phase, WDP will also equip various existing properties
in the WDP portfolio with a solar energy installation for a total
additional capacity of 2 MWp by the end of 2008.
Total
capacity of the installations after completion of the second phase
will come to 6.5 MWp of the planned 10 MWp.
The
expected electricity yield of these 6.5 MWp is the equivalent
of the yearly consumption of approximately 1,820 households. With
this installation there is also an annual reduction in CO2 emissions
of 1,750 tons.
WDP
intends to play a green leadership role in the sector of semi-industrial
real estate. With the launch of its ‘sustainable warehouses’ project,
WDP wants to reduce the CO2 emissions from its sites and succeed
in the creation of “green warehouses”.
Grimbergen
represents the first solar energy power station within the context
of this project.
