Mexicali,
Mexico: Valle Las Misiones Home Development Goes Solar
Kyocera
Solar, Inc. has announced the inauguration of a 220 home housing
development located in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The
Valle Las Misiones low income housing development, funded by Mexican
State and Federal Governments, features Kyocera solar electric
systems on each of the 220 homes within the development.
Each
homes photovoltaic (PV) array consists of 12 Kyocera KC85T solar
electric modules, for a total of 230 kilowatts project wide. Located
on the rooftop of every home in Valle Las Misiones, each one kilowatt
Kyocera solar system connects to the utility grid, providing electricity
to the grid in off peak hours and reducing power taken from the
grid during peak hours. High temperatures in the area contribute
to a high demand of electricity for the homes.
The
Mexican government subsidized the solar electric systems for the
220 home development, turning to solar energy for a more efficient
and sustainable way to power each home.
Valle
Las Misiones was inaugurated by Eugenio Elorduy, State Governor
of Baja California, and Mexico’s President Vicente Fox on October
12. Fox was on hand to show his support and distribute keys to
the first five homeowners for their new solar powered residences.
Along with Fox and Elorduy, representatives from Kyocera and Energias
Alternas were present at the inauguration. Energias Alternas SA
de CV located in Mexicali, Baja California, is the Kyocera dealer
and installer for the project.
“We
are pleased that the Baja California government with the support
of Mexico’s President Fox, has encouraged the use of solar systems
for this community which lowers their electricity cost and at
the same time contributes to environmental protection,” stated
Rob Muhn, Stand Alone Sales Manager for Kyocera Solar, Inc. “Kyocera
looks forward to maintaining our commitment to the environment
with future projects such as this and growing strategically in
the Mexican grid-tie market.”
The
Valle Las Misiones housing development is the first large-scale
grid-tie project in Mexico for Kyocera Solar, Inc.
