June 19, 2007 Japan Tokyo, Japan: SANYO Electric Achieves 22% Solar Cell Efficiency in the Laboratory. SANYO Electric has broken its own record for what the company says is the world’s highest energy conversion efficiency in practical sized (100 cm2 or more) crystalline silicon-type solar cells, by achieving an efficiency of 22% at the research level.
May 31, 2007 Japan Tokyo, Japan: Mitsubishi Electric Raises Efficiency of Multi-Crystalline Solar Cells. Mitsubishi Electric has achieved a new record photoelectric conversion efficiency rate of 18.0% for 150mm square multi-crystalline silicon solar cells, an improvement of 1.2% over the company's previous level.

Feb 6, 2008 Germany Erfurt, Germany: ersol and Schott Co-operate on Development of Micromorphous Thin Film Technology. ersol Thin Film GmbH, a subsidiary of ersol Solar Energy AG (ersol), and SCHOTT Solar GmbH, Alzenau, have concluded a cooperative agreement under which they will jointly develop micromorphous technology for thin-film solar cells.

Nov 5, 2007 Germany Berlin, Germany: Solarvalue and Sunways Co-operate on Metallurgical Silicon Research and Development. Solarvalue AG, Berlin, and Sunways AG, Konstanz have concluded a research and development agreement. The agreement envisages close cooperation in the field of R&D, aiming to produce marketable solar cells using solar grade silicon, made on the basis of metallurgical silicon.
